On July 13, 2026, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on eastbound I-82 near Union Gap in Yakima County, according to Washington State Patrol. Luis Vazquez Del Angel was walking near the eastbound lanes when he was hit from behind. The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim with serious injuries. Evidence indicates the vehicle was a 2020-2025 Ford F-Series pickup with front or driver-side damage.

The Plum Point Fire in Lincoln County, near Grand Coulee, has been authorized for state fire mobilization. The fire, which started July 15 at 5:27 p.m., is estimated at 150 acres and burning in cheatgrass and sagebrush. It threatens homes and power lines but no evacuations are in effect. State resources were mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan.
