The Skillet Fire, active since July 29, has prompted a downgrade from an evacuation order to an evacuation warning for the Good Creek/Alder Creek Area as of August 7, 2026. The fire, burning in heavy timber and dead trees on Flathead National Forest, crossed into Kootenai National Forest on July 30.
Residents in the Good Creek/Alder Creek Area should prepare to evacuate immediately if instructed by officials. The fire, managed by a Complex Incident Management Team since August 2, is currently burning aggressively but has not yet directly threatened Okanogan–Omak communities. Fire crews are monitoring the perimeter to prevent further spread toward populated areas.
