The Skillet Fire, which began on July 29, 2026, in the Tally Lake Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest, is now 100% contained. The fire, located approximately 15 miles from Olney, Montana, burned in heavy timber and dead and down trees before crossing into Kootenai National Forest on July 30.
The incident has transitioned back to the Local Unit with a Type 4 Incident Commander. The fire was detected in the Bowen Creek area and involved no reported evacuations or structural damage. Residents in the Okanogan–Omak area were not directly impacted as the fire remained in Montana.
