The Silver Fire, detected August 23 after lightning storms, has merged with two other fires (Silver Dollar 2 and Middle Silver Fires) near Roman Nose. The fire is burning in rocky subalpine terrain on the southeast side of Silver Dollar Peak.
Aerial water drops from heavy helicopters are being used to suppress the fire. Fire activity is increasing, with wind, topography, and thick vegetation challenging efforts. A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect, prohibiting drones in the area.
The Idaho Panhandle National Forests are managing the fire. Residents should avoid the area to support suppression efforts and comply with the TFR.
