The Silver Fire was detected on August 23, 2026, following a thunderstorm that produced multiple lightning strikes across the region. The fire is burning in the subalpine zone on the southeast side of Silver Dollar Peak near Roman Nose, Idaho.

Two other lightning-caused fires, Silver Dollar 2 and Middle Silver Fires, merged with the Silver Fire after initial attack efforts were exceeded. Fire suppression efforts included aerial water drops and firefighter insertion.
