Santa Rosa Island within Channel Islands National Park is closed to all day and overnight use through June 30, 2026, due to wildfire recovery efforts. The closure includes all Water Canyon Campground reservations, which have been canceled through this date.
The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team identified immediate threats to life, safety, and natural resources following the wildfire. Park staff will implement emergency stabilization projects over the summer, with some projects lasting years as the island recovers. Backcountry camping in the southeastern quadrant remains closed for the remainder of the 2026 recreation season.
