The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has implemented closures across all BLM-administered land along both sides of the John Day River, from Service Creek north to the Columbia River. This action follows rapid fire growth and extreme regional fire activity from the Rowe Creek Complex, a cluster of lightning-caused wildfires ignited July 15-16, 2026.
The Rowe Creek Complex, managed by multiple agencies including the Oregon Department of Forestry and U. S. Forest Service, includes the Crosswhite, Camel Hump, Red Rock, and Twickenham fires. Residents in Wheeler County are directed to check evacuation maps at arcg.is/1aDrHm4 for current information.
