The Ptarmigan Fire, discovered on July 17, 2026, has grown significantly enough to warrant assignment of an Okanogan-Wenatchee Type 3 incident management team on July 25, 2026. The fire is located 25 miles NW of Mazama, Washington, near the Canadian border, burning in the old Tatoosh fire area.
No evacuations are currently in place for the Ptarmigan Fire. Residents are directed to Okanogan County Emergency Management for updates on evacuations. The fire was initially staffed by smokejumpers on July 18, who conducted historic structure protection in the area.
