The Ptarmigan Fire on Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has reached 55% containment as of August 17, 2026, according to InciWeb. A local Type 3 team assumed command of the incident on the same date.
The fire, discovered July 17, has burned in the old Tatoosh fire area near the Canadian border, 20 miles NW of Mazama. It moved southward through the Middle Fork Pasayten River drainage toward Point Defiance. Acres burned in Canada are not counted toward total acreage.
No evacuations are currently in place. Residents are directed to Okanogan County Emergency Management for updates on evacuations.
