Coconino National Forest has initiated a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) for the Pocket Fire in Arizona. The fire, which began June 19, 2026, near Sedona, prompted evacuations in Oak Creek Canyon.
The BAER process aims to assess and mitigate risks to public safety, water quality, and infrastructure in burned areas. This step follows the fire's rapid spread through brush, juniper, and ponderosa pine.
The fire management transitioned to California Complex Incident Management Team 6 on July 5, 2026.
