The Hat Fire, ignited by lightning on July 24, has advanced northeast toward Crowley-Riverside Road, threatening 15 residential structures and outbuildings. California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 assumed command on July 27.
The fire's progression through grass and brush fuels, combined with terrain and wind, poses immediate risks to homes, grazing allotments, and 3,000 cattle within the fire area. Priority sage-grouse habitat and elk winter range are also at risk.
