The Butterfly Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately 10 miles east of Hamilton, Montana, continues to burn along the St. Clair drainage as of August 9, 2026.
Firefighters are working along the western flank to protect values at risk and securely anchor the fire, with dominant terrain and strong westerly winds potentially increasing fire behavior to the east away from populated areas.
Multiple air and ground resources are engaged in containment efforts, with no immediate threat reported to Okanogan–Omak residents as the fire remains in Montana.
